Each year, the College Ministry staff at Hope Community Church hold a week-long series of events to welcome back our local college students. Events range from beach volleyball tournaments to cookouts to pizza parties and nights of worship. This year, the staff wanted to keep the artwork more simplified compared to the last couple of years. The downtown Raleigh skyline is iconic and well known to college students, so we thought it would be great to feature it. I’ve been loving gradients lately, so I knew i wanted to incorporate into the artwork as well. I’ve also really been diggin’ outlined type and the staff really liked it. The back of the card features a lot of text and information, so I knew I wanted to keep that as simple and straightforward as possible. Since the College Ministry staff utilizes social media to provide event details, I knew that had to be prominent.

Throughout the school year, College Ministry holds Community Nights at local colleges and universities as a way for students to gather collectively for small groups, worship and a time of fellowship and community. This card was designed to be passed out at College Ministry events and to be given to leaders at each university as a handout to be given to prospective students who may be interested in more information.

Each summer, the College Ministry holds events they call Summer Nights at each Hope campus as a way for local college and university students who may be local or don’t go home during the summer to gather for a time of community with food, worship and a time of teaching. In keeping with the use of gradients and outlined type, I wanted to incorporate that style into this printed card once more. This was a really fun one since previously, the design for these cards were much simpler and not as engaging. I wanted to work with balance and symmetry in this card. I’m really pleased with how it turned out, and so was the ministry.

The Next 30 Days is a thirty day devotional written by thirty Hope staff members on various spiritual topics to help new believers begin their faith walk. it began as a project for our Baptism ministry as a resource to be given to those who have just been baptized but quickly evolved into a church-wide resource. This was a super fun project since I’m a huge fan of print and layout design. To be able to take a thirty-six page Word document and turn it into something that people are excited to hold in their hand and read and actually use was huge for me. Between a subscribable online Mailchimp campaign and printed books, over a thousand people have gone through the Next 30 Days. It was great to be a part of something that is helping people learn and grow in their walk with the Lord.

Our Kids ministry, KidCity, wanted a handout they could use with their kids who were interested in being baptized. This handout is used by KidCity staff and leaders to guide kids through a series of questions to help them understand what baptism means and to make sure they better understand their decision. Since this resource is geared towards elementary age kids, I wanted it to be fun and engaging and have a hand-drawn doodle type of feel and provide the kids with a type of map they could follow from one question to another.

Our church kicked off 2019 with a series called “VII” talking about the seven deadly sins. We wanted to show how something beautiful like a rose could become decayed and withered and eventually die; how something that is good and beautiful like sex or food or possessions can become deadly when taken out of the context of God’s Word and how He calls us to live as Christians. I went with an overly dark look for the background and type so to allow the muted reds of the rose to stand out in the foreground.

The Best Life was our second sermon series of 2019. This series aimed to illustrate the practical ways that we as Christians and best walk in the way God calls us to, therefore helping us live our best lives. Polaroids and photographs often depict the best moments of our lives, the moments we wish to remember. By using polaroids, we wanted to show how by living how God calls us to live, we can have memorable seasons and times in our own lives.

Project Classroom was a local outreach initiative developed and led by Hope Community Church in partnership with multiple other local area churches in the Raleigh-Durham area to provide provide Wake County school teachers with various school supplies so they do not have to spend their own money out of pocket for the necessary supplies they need for each school year. This was an unused concept, but I loved how it resembled a stamp. I used to love stamps when I was a young kid in elementary school. I’m a huge fan of circle badge-like logos and I loved the symmetry of the elements in the logo. I also love the colors in this concept.

Social graphics created for our Morrisville campus’ event called Morrisville’s Got Talent. I love creating broken grid style designs and collage style designs for Instagram (top design). These were a lot of fun to create. I especially love the bold type and the color palette.
